Spring shoot

Over the years I’ve heard (and seen!) great things about Mary’s work at Evie & Jr. Photography. When I saw she was making another trip to Sacramento in April I booked some family portraits.

Since I’m the one who’s always behind the camera and rarely in front of it, I’m so glad we took the time to freeze this moment as a family.

At 7 months her little personality is really coming out. She’s funny, determined and really just a happy baby. We think we’ll keep her.

Nacho Family Camping 2015

Every year since I can remember (give or take a few missed), my extended family meets somewhere to campout in nature. Sometimes my mom and aunt(s) join, but its become more of a tradition for my dad, brothers, uncles and cousins. Now that many of us are scattered in various directions, its always fun to catch up with each other, teach the kids our traditions, and make new ones. This year we scored reservations at Pfeiffer Big Sur and for her first time camping Cecily got to sleep in a tent, snuggle around the…

Cecily’s Birth

We spent the last 12 weeks of the pregnancy taking classes in the Bradley Method of natural childbirth. Its based on going into labor with a strong education of the birth process to be your own advocate to prevent unnecessary medical interventions. It teaches the husbands to be strong coaches and we practiced many relaxation techniques for pain management. We both loved the class, felt extremely prepared to attempt a natural birth with our awesome doula and the open-minded nature of Sutter Davis Hospital. At the end of it our biggest fear was tackling…

Mothers and daughters

Hi blog! I think about you a lot but the old fear of the blank page stops me. Or I have some great idea that involves way too much planning, photographing and pulling together to make it possible for now. Or I just forget what my great idea was in the first place. I read that most blogs are abandoned within 3 months, and as much as I have going on right now I’m still not ready to wave the white flag. Out of the 4 Reasons That Most Bloggers Fail I think I’m mostly guilty…

Scheming: Curb Appeal

Thank you for the well-wishes and thoughts on going back to work back last week. Its a lot to get used to and a lot of bags I’m schlepping to/fro but we did great and no major fallouts so far (we’re still sleeping, yay!). :*

One of my favorite things to say is “I have an idea.” Unfortunately its also my husband’s least favorite thing to hear. Right behind “Can we talk about something?” We’re working on that.

Jasper_doorThe whole reason I wanted to buy a home is so that I can have as many ideas as I want…

Back to life

Collage1 Collage2

Tomorrow is Sunday. A day that will once again take on that familiar weight that Sundays can have. For the last 4 months I’ve been on maternity leave getting to know this new person in our lives, healing my body and becoming a mother. She has changed so much since we first met in September, I’m already reminiscing about what holding an 8 lb newborn felt like and trying to lock it in my synapses. Every day it seems a new piece of her personality presents itself and we fall in love a little more. She tends to…

Book Report-2014

I come from a family of readers. I’ve read myself to sleep every night for as long as I can remember. I prefer reading fiction and, its my cozy ritual of escape from the stresses of today and before I worry about tomorrow’s to do list. The more I have going on, the more I crave that escape into someone else’s problems, adventures and lessons. As I’ve gotten older and busier I discovered Audible.com and audiobooks. Some say that having the books ‘acted’ out removes your ability to interpret and imagine, but to me its still the art…

thankful_vertsOur first Thanksgiving as a new family wasn’t of the Norman Rockwell variety, but that’s not how we roll. The baby cried (a lot) and the husband worked, but nonetheless it was a great couple days with extended family in town.

The ladies woke up early to join 30,000 of our closest friends to walk a 5k and earn an extra helping later. This was my first year at the end of the pack in the stroller zone, and stroll we did with our 1:49 finish time. PR I did not, but I met one of my favorite…

X bench makeover

Earlier this summer a good friend of mine asked me if I wanted to give a good home to some furniture from her parent-in-laws’ estate. I love old pieces but I especially love furniture (or anything) with a meaningful story that was a part of someone special’s home. I took a couple pieces knowing I could give them a new life and finally got around to some updates. Even though I have a needy infant, she does nap and I need a creative outlet to stay sane. Now that we finally have a house, and the space to…

Cecily Newborn Photos

When CeCe was about 2 weeks old we had Penny Sylvia over to capture some photos of our little family. I just wanted a really relaxed shoot that was a bit of a time capsule of us in our new house. Just coming out of my postpartum fog I didn’t spend a lot of time doing my hair or makeup–we just kind of went with it and luckily the baby (and beagles!) cooperated.

At some point I may do a post on the nursery design, but here’s a peek. Since we didn’t know the baby’s gender,…
